Hadoken – Luminary (Ericrock/APM)
If you’re looking for the teenage worrying electro-new-rave of Hadouken, then an absolutely legitimate mistake would be to pick up a copy of Luminary by Hadoken! For those fortunate enough to make this error, subjecting themselves to this album of blissful, smoothly paced, dreamy post rock could make them think that the mistake was not wanting this in the first place!
Luminary shimmers from the outset and although there are surges of power and distorted heights, the overall tone is one of peace and tranquility. The notes and textures are thoughtfully layered and carefully placed, and results in a kind of musical democracy, where none of the instruments herald over any of the others. The low-key staccato glockenspiel of “Prelude” carries as much weight as the rocked-out crescendos that culminate the likes of “The Ballad Of Floating Fire”, “From Winter” and “Time And The Observer”. www.myspace.com/surgefist
