A few words with Brad Dunn. Dunn is the lead vocalist and guitarist in Brad Dunn and Ellis County.
Leicester Bangs: Tell us a little about yourself, and your band.
Brad: I have been playing music for a long time. I started writing for my album and ran into some guys here in town and we started the band. Since we put Brad Dunn and Ellis County together we have started writing as band. I think all of our influences have come out on this new album.
LB: How did you start out making music?
Brad: At a young age, I guess 13. Playing guitar in my room as a kid.
LB: Who did you grow up listening to and how do they influence what you’re doing now?
Brad: Steely Dan, Fleetwood Mac, AC/DC and much more. I guess I’ve been influenced more by my surroundings than music. I grew up in a small town, mostly country music fans. I guess I am a product of my raising
LB: Tell us about your latest release.
Brad: "Ranch Cat" Is our first studio album. We did record a demo last year, and some of the songs from that demo are on "Ranch Cat". I think this is as good as most of the stuff out there today, and I am very proud of it.
LB: Do you get out and play your music live, and if so, what can an audience expect at one of your shows?
Brad: We play out a lot. I think people would say they like the live shows for its diversity of the music we write, and the energy we deliver it with.
LB: What aspects of playing and recording music do you most enjoy?
Brad: Recording and playing live are so different. With recording, it’s all about the finished product. Capturing a feeling or mood and then being able to live with the final product after its released. I love the studio and everything about it. Playing live the reward is seeing someone out there singing your songs with you while your performing them. There is no bigger thrill.
LB: Where can people find (and buy) your music?
Brad: Facebook and CD Baby (links below).
