Chelsea Kent
Pianist / guitarist Chelsea Kent answers some questions...
Leicester Bangs: Chelsea, tell us a little about yourself. Chelsea: I'm an 18-year-old singer-songwriter-musician originally from Texas, but currently living in Nashville, TN, to attend Belmont University where I am majoring in songwriting and music business.
LB: How did you start out making music? Chelsea: I wrote my first song "Stand Tall" when I was 9 years old. I was coming back from a softball tournament and wrote down some lyrics. I didn't realize what I was doing at the time, but it turned out to be my very first original song!
LB: Who did you grow up listening to and how do they influence what you’re doing now? Chelsea: My parents are Beatles fans so I grew up listening to all of their music (Eleanor Rigby is my favorite song!). I also listened to soft rock, country, classical, and a variety of other genres. I believe that my style has been influenced by each of the genres I listened to growing up, and they have helped me to develop my own voice in songwriting.
LB: Tell us about your latest release. Chelsea: My latest release "Find The True Meaning" is a collection of piano songs that I wrote in the summer of 2010. These songs reflect my adventures in love and life. I hope this album causes people to look into themselves and see what is important to them.
LB: Do you get out and play your music live, and if so, what can an audience expect at one of your shows? Chelsea: I have not been able to play a lot of shows lately because I am in college, but I plan on scheduling a few gigs soon. So if you are to come to one of my shows, expect to feel emotion, be involved, and just to have fun.
LB: What aspects of playing and recording music do you most enjoy? Chelsea: After a song is recorded, I enjoy the feeling that I have just created a something that didn't exist before. Hearing it all in my head, and hearing it as a completed composition is an amazing feeling. It's a feeling beyond comprehension! It makes me so excited; I just want to play it for everyone!
LB: Where can people find (and buy) your music? Chelsea: If you would like to buy my music, you can check out my website:
And soon it will be on iTunes, Amazon.com, and many others. If you visit my website, be sure to leave your email on my guest list so that I can keep you updated on shows and new songs!
