Dave Catmore
A few words with Dave Catmore: singer, guitarist and two-fingered keyboardist.
Leicester Bangs: Tell us a little about yourself, and your band.
Dave: The efforts on my album "Something There" are all down to me so only I can take the blame! I am old enough to remember the 60's! I’m a married family man with the drive to produce something on my own learning as I went along.
LB: How did you start out making music?
Dave: I dabbled with writing about 10 years ago after a 20 year break from music, something I deeply regret. When I was made redundant in 2006 I was in the fortunate position of having more time to devote to what I still class as my hobby. Driven by a will to produce some music from scratch and get it somewhere where it would be available without relying on anyone else.
LB: Who did you grow up listening to and how do they influence what you’re doing now?
Dave: Strange one, I grew up listening to The Beatles, The Stones and all of those 60s / 70s bands, but if you listen to the crap songs I've produced they're all country based, with no single artist influencing me. I just like good music be it pop, classics, country.
LB: Tell us about your latest release.
Dave: “Something There” was completed last year (2009). Ten numbers of doubtful quality, but when I put five of them forward to an American concern that promotes independent artists, they’ve managed to get some 10,000 plus airplays on independent radio around the world. Someone, somewhere felt it was reasonable enough to play...
I’ve also recently released two singles on CDBaby, “You Promised Me Nothing” and “Wheels Of Fire”.
LB: Do you get out and play your music live, and if so, what can an audience expect at one of your shows?
Dave: I haven't played my own stuff live, but I do use it as background and for basic PA soundchecks with my live band which is a 6 piece 50's / 60's Rock & Roll based band, four old f***s and two ladies! We’re called Rock On.
LB: What aspects of playing and recording music do you most enjoy?
Dave: I have to say nearly all of it, especially as you get major satisfaction when you actually produce something in it's entirety and it actually sounds like music.
I try to keep it realistic with the aim that it would be easy to perform.
Recording, mixing, mastering all arts that a zillion people out there have much more skill than I do but hey, I did it on my own!
LB: Where can people find (and buy) your music?
