Flash Jack Eppington: Penny Up

A little Q&A with singer-songwriter-guitarist Flash Jack Eppington.

Leicester Bangs: Tell us a little about yourself.
Jack: It's just me - I'm a solo performer, originally from New York City. I'm now based in Boston, Massachusetts.

LB: How did you start out making music?
Jack: I'm one of those guys who has been writing songs forever, but for a long time was too chicken to perform. I did my first open mike around 2005, and since then have done close to 100 performances.

LB: Who did you grow up listening to and how do they influence what you’re doing now?
Jack: The Beatles were it for me. I guess I have to admit I am just old enough to have been around when they were. I still think it is some of the best pop music ever, and a direct influence on my writing.

LB: Tell us about your latest release.
Jack: "Penny Up" is an "EP" - a bit silly, as it is more of a short album than an extended single, but I didn't invent this patois. There are six tracks of original songs, 20 minutes playing time, with pop, rock, and softer tunes. Just enough to find out if you like what I do… or not.

LB: Do you get out and play your music live, and if so, what can an audience expect at one of your shows?
Jack: I generally play at open mikes and coffeehouses in the Northeast USA, and because I just moved to Boston I’m just starting to get known in the local area here. It is just me, and a guitar - acoustic or electric depending on various factors. I usually play tunes from "Penny Up" but may do some covers as well.

LB: What aspects of playing and recording music do you most enjoy?
Jack: I like just trying to make the music as good as I can. I do wish I had more feedback - I'm pretty isolated. But I've worked very hard on "Penny Up" and I'm happy with it. I hope others are as well.

LB: Where can people find (and buy) your music?
Jack: All roads lead to my website from which you can listen to song samples and purchase the CD. “Penny Up” is also available at CD Baby, and should be available shortly on ITunes and everywhere else. As for me, I'm also on Reverbnation, Facebook, and Twitter. Links below:
