A little chat with pianist and singer Ginger Orsi.Ginger Orsi

Leicester Bangs: Tell us a little about yourself.
Ginger: I was born in LA and I began acting as a child. I love the spotlight, but I also love to be my own person so I have been drifting in and out of performing ever since.

LB: How did you start out making music?
Ginger: I started by playing the piano with Chris Lemon, Jack Lemon's son, on the set of Duet, a TV series I was on as a kid. Since then I always banged away letting all of my emotions out on the keys. I began making blues and pop music after going through a really hard time in my life at about 21 and songs just started pouring out of me. I wrote them in simple form on the piano, and in my head… then I started working with musicians to make it come to life.

LB: Who did you grow up listening to and how do they influence what you’re doing now?
Ginger: I grew up listening to a lot of classic rock, blues-rock, folk music and reggae. My parents used to hang out with Bonnie Raitt and listened to all that stuff. They sent me to a ranch camp where I got an education in American Folk music storytelling.

LB: Tell us about your latest release.
Ginger: My latest release called "Take a Bath with Me" is an EP of 4 songs that I recorded 2 years ago. Now just seemed like a good time to let them out. The title song is a real jazzy sexy piece that people love.

LB: Do you get out and play your music live, and if so, what can an audience expect at one of your shows?
Ginger: I do play live from time to time. An audience can expect a somewhat intimate, musically and lyrically compelling performance, at a place that you can have a drink and chill.

LB: What aspects of playing and recording music do you most enjoy?
Ginger: I love the moment that the song becomes whole, finished and complete. I can't sleep at times at night because something is missing. So when the song is done, I get some ZZZs and that makes me happy (laughs).

LB: Where can people find (and buy) your music?
Ginger: I thought you'd never ask. You can buy my music at CD Baby.com. Search: Ginger Orsi (link(s) below) - the EP is less then 4 bucks. Also add me on my myspace page and find me on itunes this month!
