Oh, Atoms - You Can’t See The Stars From Here (Lucky Motel)
Described by some bastard as “the folk-pop Ting Tings”, largely because they’re a mixed double, Oh, Atoms seem poised to take the touchingly whimsical, indie-folky-pop duo stakes by storm. It’s beneficial that both Gwen Cheeseman and Marc Withecomb - for it is they - bring an abundance of instruments to the mix. It adds a dynamic which isn’t instantly obvious, but is there, nonetheless. They’re both reasonable vocalists, with Gwen the twee(e)r of the two, and Marc sounding not unlike a southern Lightning Seed. Their pure pop songs are sweet as candy and, if like many, you discover them via the “Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging” soundtrack - opening track “Sugar Mouse” was featured somewhere or other - further investigation is definitely recommended. www.myspace.com/ohatoms
