The Len Price 3 – Pictures (Wicked Cool)
Championed by both Rolling Stone Magazine, and a key associate of New Jersey’s premier fictional crime syndicate, The Len Price 3 are undoubtedly on the cusp of great things. Fortunately, not only do the band and their supporters talk the talk, their records walk the walk. Hailing from Kent’s Medway Delta, the home of The Milkshakes and The Prisoners, The Len Price 3 carry on the area’s folk tradition, with a sound that integrates mod(ish) R&B, garage power-pop and ‘60’s beat. Add a little Dr. Feelgood grit and some Screaming Blue Messiahs urgency, and a pleasing picture is forming. Their second record for Stevie Van Zandt’s Wicked Cool label (their third in total) continues their skyward arc. Punchy guitars and knowing lyrics consolidate their already solid sound, and there are so many genuine highlights, it almost feels churlish emphasising individual songs (though some of the early Who references on songs like “Keep Your Eyes On Me” and “I Don’t Believe You” are particularly pleasing). If any of the above piques your interest, it would be wise to check them out without further delay.
