Hennessy Keane – Nowhere Fast (Independent) Comprising of core duo Shaun Hennessy on guitars and backing vocals, and Ian Keane on lead vocals and drums, they’re ably supported on their debut by a couple of buddies on bass and guitar, and producer Nick Beere, who guests on Hammond organ. Considering their Anglo-Irish roots and connections to Basingstoke rather than Austin, their sound, a hybrid of folk-rock and Americana, is well executed and easy to like. Keane’s vocals employ just the right amount of yearning without becoming pastiche and the guitars lack no toothsome twang. Opener “Now She’s Gone” hits the spot and sets the tone, and while I imagine they’re more inclined to live performance than the recording studio, Nowhere Fast is better than just a souvenir of a top night out. www.myspace.com/hennessykeane Rob F.
