Curtains For You - What A lovely Surprise To Wake Up Here (Spark & Shine)
Seattle quintet, Curtains For You, are a classic pop band. Their prime influences all appear to begin with the letter ‘B’ (Beatles, Beach Boys, Badfinger and Big Star) and they scatter hooks with the joyful abandon of a Japanese trawlerman. This sort of thing hasn’t been properly fashionable for years, certainly it’s not the sort of pop that’s popular enough to trouble chart compilers, but then the really good stuff rarely does. Main songwriters Matt Gervais (five songs) and Peter Fedofsky (four) have put together a collection which consistently provides thrills. Choruses beg the involvement of anyone in earshot, and milkmen will whistle their hearts out (bless ‘em). The best of a very good bunch, “The Nuclear Age” and “Dumb Angel” could both be used to advertise smiles proper ear candy for the more discerning pop connoisseur.
