Jason Gordon
A few words with singer-songwriter, guitarist and pianist, Jason Gordon.
Leicester Bangs: Tell us a little about yourself. Jason: I'm a singer-songwriter from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada and I've been performing and making music since I was 4 years old. I have just put out my seventh record called Born To Be, which is my first ever solo record.
LB: How did you start out making music? Jason: I began picking up show tunes off the piano when I was 3 years old and starting writing music on the piano when I was 9.
LB: Who did you grow up listening to and how do they influence what you’re doing now? Jason: I was exposed to the Beatles, Beach Boys, Roy Orbison, the Rolling Stones and the Guess Who growing up. The harmonies and melodies of those artists really influenced me.
LB: Tell us about your latest release. Jason: Born To Be is a very special record. It's the turning point in my musical career where I really figured out what I was made of as an artist in and out of the studio. I dug deep to write the songs and it helped me get through a rough point in my life. Becoming a solo artist was something I had always wanted to do but never had the courage...
LB: Do you get out and play your music live, and if so, what can an audience expect at one of your shows? Jason: I have a very high-energy five-piece band of Winnipeg's finest players. I hand picked them by going to clubs and scouting (laughs). I also perform as an acoustic three-piece for more intimate quiet concerts. The show has lots of passion and some humor as well.
LB: What aspects of playing and recording music do you most enjoy? Jason: I enjoy the learning experience of working with so many great people all the time as well as the magic of mistakes in the studio. Wonderful mistakes, as I like to call them (laughs).
LB: Where can people find (and buy) your music? Jason: Born To Be can be purchased at www.cdbaby.com/jasongordon.
