Jeevan D'Souza
A little Q&A with Jeevan D'Souza; pianist and bandleader of The Jeevan D'Souza Jazz Trio.
Leicester Bangs: Tell us a little about yourself, and your band. Jeevan: We are an established Jazz trio in NYC. We all have been professional musicians for over 10 years and have been in this band for a year now.
LB: How did you start out making music? Jeevan: I learnt to play the guitar at the age of 5. Since then I have just been writing and composing. It comes very naturally to me. I can compose a tune in five minutes.
LB: Who did you grow up listening to and how do they influence what you’re doing now? Jeevan: I grew up listening to Michael Jascson, Madonna, Celine Dion, Whitney Houston and other 80s pop stars. NONE of them influence my music.
In the late 90s I started listening to Henri Mancini, Frank Sinatra, Glen Miller, Kenny G and other Jazz artists. My music derives musical content from their style.
LB: Tell us about your latest release. Jeevan: My latest release is Prairie Blues. It is a compilation of 14 originals and cover tunes. I am playing piano with my Trio. It’s a good mix of Jazz, easy listening and pop.
LB: Do you get out and play your music live, and if so, what can an audience expect at one of your shows? Jeevan: I play live every week in NYC. The audience can expect some great Jazz!
LB: What aspects of playing and recording music do you most enjoy? Jeevan: I like being in front of an audience the most. I can almost never play alone.
LB: Where can people find (and buy) your music? Jeevan: CD Baby and my website (links below).
