Shane Ryan Roberts - Blue On You (Independent) This self-produced, self written, self played solo CD is an impressive release. Shane is a fine guitar player; his electric solos are well executed and muscular throughout. His voice is fine too, though it strangely fails to move me on occasions. The excellent ‘My Love, My Lady’, would perhaps work better if he had a female harmony singer. Often the emotional nature of the material is a little lost as Shane overdubs everything himself. Perhaps a more ‘organic’ approach would serve his songs better. A small combo of friends and a sympathetic duet singing partner could really bring out the strength in his songs. These are minor criticisms; I believe Shane Ryan Roberts has a talent that would really shine in a slightly less sterile setting.
