Midnight Juggernauts – Crystal Axis (Siberia Records)
'Dystopia', Midnight Juggernauts' 2008 debut, was an improbably brilliant combination of 70s space rock, prog and disco. 'Crystal Axis' effectively pulls the same trick, but does it even better this time. No radical departure, the Australian group have simply refined their sound ever so slightly, without losing their propensity for epic glitterball rock that would sound equally great on the dancefloor or in a stadium.

'Vital Signs' and 'Lifeblood Flow' set the tone for the journey to follow: think 'Pink Floyd: Live At Pompei' atmospherics (foreboding, big drums and swirling synths) married to effortlessly clever pop, with choruses as big and bright as supernovas exploding. Like a less heavy Muse, or a slightly heavier Sparks, 'Crystal Axis' is a riot of symphonic, epic electronic pop from start to end.
