Shonen Knife –Super Group(Tomato Head)
Ooooh! Shonen Knife! I’ll repeat that – Ooooh, Shonen Knife! As effervescent as a glass of bicarb, as liquid cool as a snifta of vodka from the freezer, as smooth as a glass of Pyms at Wimbledon, and as rock n’ roll as a double shot of Jack Daniels at midnight. What more is there to say about this supergroup from the shores of Japan? (Well, okay, their music is upbeat, catchy and great fun, and they are rebellious, energetic, frivolous, exciting, smart, astute… and just plain sexy!).
After nearly thirty years (I repeat – nearly thirty years!) as a pop-punk garage-rock all-girl band, with both style and beauty, you either like them or you don’t. But each time they put something new in front of you then you need to reassess your negative situation, or add to your positive position. What you must not do is ignore them, because then you miss this particular sharp point of rock music altogether, and that is surely a no brainer. Go refigure!
