Rubber Band Banjo: Synthetic Biology

Reviews
Rubber Band Banjo - Synthetic Biology (Fringe Biology Recordings)
Rubber Band Banjo uses a host of homemade and off the shelf instruments. Circuit bent electronics, synthetic drums, Buddha Machine and field recordings, and much manipulation to prepare his music. Spatial ambience, suitably sci-fi noises and scientific “synthetic biology interview” samples falsely sets a drifting atmosphere, which after a couple of minutes introduces beats and a saxophone which felt a little intrusive, thus mildly disappointing.

“Chase Scene Through DNA Wormholes” with its driving rhythm and technological bleeps is more Krautrock in construct. With the exception of “Self-Assembling Virus Spaceship” which is more subtly space age than the remainder of the tracks, “Terraforming Planet DIY Bio” through “Bugs & Biofuels” to “Human Engineered Pathogen” lean outer-space towards drum ‘n’ bass, techno and hip-hop instrumentals. Some great sounds.
