Justen Cimino
A few words with Seattle guitarist Justen Cimino.

Leicester Bangs: Tell us a little about yourself.Justen Cimino
Justen: I’m a 40 year old guitarist living in Seattle Washington. I’ve been performing since the age of 16. After years on the road in various folk and rock outfits I now spend my time composing and recording instrumental guitar works. My music is stylistically varied with an emphasis on acoustic guitar. My interest in world and folk music has led me to study classical, flamenco and other traditional indigenous styles.

LB: How did you start out making music?
Justen: I began playing guitar at the age of eight.

LB: Who did you grow up listening to and how do they influence what you’re doing now?
Justen: I grew up on rock-n-roll.  The classics, Zep, The Who, Kinks, Dylan, Beatles. These days I am mostly into folk music and classical.  The rock-n-roll influence hopefully keeps me from getting completely boring.

LB: Tell us about your latest release.
Justen: Peasants' Muster is an instrumental guitar concept album. The music tells the story of a peasant revolt. Written and recorded in the fall and winter of 2008 and 09 it is the culmination of over 30 years of playing and recording. Combining classical technique, old-fashioned flat picked rock-n-roll, nylon and steel string guitars, Peasants' Muster is a must for fans of instrumental guitar music.

LB: Do you get out and play your music live, and if so, what can an audience expect at one of your shows?
Justen: I am currently not performing.

LB: What aspects of playing and recording music do you most enjoy?
Justen: The thing I enjoy most is when a good idea actually turns into something.  It's one thing to have a cool jam or moments of bliss while playing but I really look for more than that.  A finished piece of music that actually goes somewhere.

LB: Where can people find (and buy) your music?
Justen: CD Baby, my website and MySpace (links below).
