Leicester Bangs: Tell us a little about yourself, and your band.
Kathryn: I am from Charlottesville, VA. I have released 4 CD's; they are all on iTunes and CD Baby. I am currently promoting my new CD "Down Home Girl". I released it on Oct 31st, and it’s a country / bluegrass / Americana CD. I wrote all 11 songs, and they are from the heart. I play with some fantastic musicians. Andy Thacker is a true mandolin virtuoso and he plays all the acoustic and electric guitar on the CD as well. Darrell Muller plays the acoustic bass. James McLaughlin plays drums and also engineered and mixed the recording. Stuart Holme plays electric bass and Nick Reeb plays the fiddle! My first three CDs are in the Americana / rock genre, "Down Home Girl" is back to my roots of country bluegrass; I grew up singing it - starting in church! It was not until I met Andy Thacker that I thought I could ever do a CD like this. His talent is truly an inspiration, and when I met him I knew he could play what I wrote… and he did. The combination of all of these fantastic musicians has made for what I think is my best recording yet!

LB: How did you start out making music?
Kathryn: I grew up in a family of 7 children. Both of my parents are very musical. My father is an amazing bluegrass banjo player. Little Roy of the Lewis family taught him. We sang and played in church all 7 of us! We were like the Von Trap Family (laughs).

LB: Who did you grow up listening to and how do they influence what you’re doing now?
Kathryn: I grew up listening to Dolly Parton, The Country Gentlemen, Loretta Lynne, Simon and Garfunkel. My older siblings exposed me to AC/DC, Nazareth, Guns N’ Roses, etc. I listen to everything. Currently Nina Simone is in my player. Country singer songwriters like Dolly Parton and Loretta Lynne mainly influence me; they write about their personal lives and where they come from. Which touches people. Listeners and fans want to hear what you have to say and 9 times out of 10, when it is "real", they can find something in your music to relate to and hold on to. Hopefully "Down Home Girl" will do that to whoever hears it!

LB: Tell us about your latest release.
Kathryn: "Down Home Girl" Was recorded here in Charlottesville at The Sound Studios and has 11 songs written by me. Andy Thacker did all of the guitar and mandolin arrangements, and then we got the rest of the guys and made a great recording. James engineered it, mixed it and helped me produce it. There are some tears in your beer songs; "For You", and "Where Did The Time Go". Some footstompin’, rockin’ tunes; "Wheels" and "Far Away". Straight bluegrass; "Settlin Down". Newgrass tunes, "The Fall"  and "workin’ man", country rock; "Honeyhill" and a heartbreaker "The Dream", about my older brother who died much too young. Some country folk; "Bad Luck Song" and "The Way". The overall feel is vibrant and sincere and I have a high and lonesome soulful voice that, combined with the songwriting and stellar musicianship, has made for something special.

LB: Do you get out and play your music live, and if so, what can an audience expect at one of your shows?
Kathryn: We play all the time. You can expect major singin’, footstompin’, rowdiness, and amazing musicianship!

LB: What aspects of playing and recording music do you most enjoy?
Kathryn: Every last bit of it. Singing, writing, playing live and working in the studio! All of it!

LB: Where can people find (and buy) your music?
