Novillero - A Little Tradition (Mint Records)
Mod-pop as a genre necessarily demands a magpie thievery of all that’s gone before. If you are nabbing from early Who, Love and The Small Faces at least you are stooping low with the highest ambition. Winnipeg’s Novillero have produced a Swiss army knife of an album, including tools for dancing, drinking, cogitating and just plain hanging out. When Keri Latimer adds winsome, lilting vocals to the toolkit, there’s a snugly fitting “Daydreams and Distractions”. Perfect for both a Saturday night and a Sunday afternoon. And can any song title stand comparison to “The Printed Word (Sucks for Inflection)”? www.mintrecs.com
