Noah Earle – This Is The Jubilee (Mayapple)
Born in Topeka, Kansas ("a good place to dig potatoes") and surrounded by a family of musicians, Noah Earle was exposed at an early age to an abundance of country and roots music. Seems he liked what he heard, because This Is The Jubilee (his follow up to 2007’s Postcards From Home) is steeped in the musical traditions of his childhood, plus any number of folk and blues influences you care to mention. It’s engaging stuff, Earle’s a master guitarist and his ability to convey both mood and narrative with an easy-going, almost conversational style is to be applauded. Whether there are plans afoot for UK dates, I’m wholly ignorant, but if he does make it to a small venue near you, don’t miss out. In the meantime there are several CDs to enjoy.
