Violet Vector and the Lovely Lovelies - EPIl(Color Wheel Records)
Ah, so lovely to get something as off-the-wall, so effervescent, so quick-to-rock-out. I felt that I ought to write this review real quick too, which would suit the pace of this fleet-footed band. They provide 5 songs in 16 minutes on this, their sophomore EP, and the music unfolds in a heavenly ray of sunshine garage pop that is quite irresistible.
When I heard a soundbite before receiving the CD, I honestly thought that I was in for a Vivian Girls session, but I think Amanda Brooks and her compatriots have even more going for them than those Brooklyn based girls. For one thing, they don’t ever sound tired and pissed off with their lot, being the exuberant garage rockers and psyche-pop exponents that they are; for another, they have better songs, and they sound really HAPPY to actually play and share them! Gosh, I bet they are really something live - pass the happy stick!
This is a whizz-bang kaleidoscope of music, and the title of the penultimate track sums it all up for us, and I couldn’t put it better myself: “Sunshine In Space”. So, when do we get the album, my friends? www.myspace.com/violetvectorandthelovelylovelies
