Tokyo Mask - Route Painless (Low Impedance Recordings)
Beyond its striking artwork and silver inner sleeve “Route Painless” is probably as near on, the most inappropriate title for this release. Tracks such as “The Human Wreck”, “Death Drive” and “Bastard Son” were probably produced to contain and cause pain! Powerfully beaten drums, screaming distortion, heavy processing and layered field recordings culminate in producing an immense, noisy wall of abomination. Instrumental filth - a distant cousin of “Pretty Hate Machine”-period Nine Inch Nails.
Sister Overdrive - Annick / Philomena (Low Impedance Recordings)
Sister Overdrive presents two dark ambient pieces, “Annick” and “Philomena”, each in five-parts. Upon a backdrop of swelling (and not so swelling) drones and flaking fuzz, “Annick” has an insect-like scurry, which evokes a kind of nighttime natural world. “Philomena” originally composed for a theatre production of Ovid’s “Metamorphoses VI” has a murkier, industrialised tone. Switch out the lights and surrender yourself!
