Matthew Pop A few words with singer-songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist, Matthew Pop.
Leicester Bangs: Tell us a little about yourselves. Matthew: We are a pop / rock trio from NYC. I have been writing, recording, and performing since age 14.
LB: How did you start out making music? Matthew: Music has always been a passion of mine. I got my first guitar at 14 and quickly learned that I could write original music.
LB: Who did you grow up listening to and how do they influence what you’re doing now? Matthew: I grew up listening to everything from Weezer to the Smoking Popes, The Pixies to Green Day, and the Replacements to Elvis Costello.
LB: Tell us about your latest release. Matthew: My 4th LP, "Reinventing The Cosmos", has just been released this month! Its a bit more aggressive than what I have released in the past. 10 power-pop punches to the face.
LB: Do you get out and play your music live, and if so, what can an audience expect at one of your shows? Matthew: An audience can expect to hear some awesome tunes and have a great time. We frequent the local NYC clubs and try to tour nationally once a year.
LB: What aspects of playing and recording music do you most enjoy? Matthew: Just the act of creating something fresh and new.
