Mark Tulk - At The End Of The Day (Small House)
A six track EP from Mark Tulk, a keyboard player and songwriter from Melbourne, Australia. Written and recorded in the gaps between producing records for the other artists on his Small House label, the ‘slowly but surely’ approach that Tulk has employed has produced something a little bit special. The six tracks on At The End Of The Day occupy a space in the hinterland between the urban and the big outdoors, between the (false) promise of bright lights and big city life and the desolate beauty of the desert. Whether those feelings are provoked by Tulk’s songs, the leisurely arrangements or the overall mood of the recordings, I don’t know, but the effect is in turns dramatic, soporific and morphine heavy. Sometimes all at once. Needless to say, Australian artists rarely get the recognition they deserve, especially if they stay in Australia, so head over to his MySpace page to hear for yourself, and to CD Baby to purchase.
