Slim Cessna’s Auto Club – Buried Behind The Barn (Alternative Tentacles)
Buried Behind The Barn is a collection of out-takes, compilation tracks and four early versions of songs that would later turn up on their Bloudy Tenent record. I think it’s fair to say that Slim Cessna’s Auto Club earned their spurs bands as a bar band. If reports are to be believed, a particularly fine bar band, and indeed, both Spin Magazine and No Depression have described them as the best live band in America. As far as I’m aware, they’ve never played Leicester, but if they ever do, I’ll take two tickets, and until then, their albums will do. Anyway, back to Buried Behind The Barn. Compilations such as these are generally for completists and mega-nerd-fans only, but there’s too much good stuff here to ignore. Treat it as a primer, and it makes more sense. A bite-size introduction to one of the coolest alt. country bands around.
