Should – Like A Fire Without Sound (Words On Music)
Since forming back in the early 1990s as a trio, Should have now shed a member (Eric Ostermeier), leaving brother Marc Ostermeier and Tanya Maus, to continue. Back then they were simply marvelous, and now they’re just as good… perhaps even better.

“Glasshouse” is a start to match the cover: an empty picnic table overlooks a lake with a mountains and blue sky - a place for contemplation, for just sitting and letting your thoughts trickle gently through the mind whilst the body relaxes. That’s what happens with “Glasshouse”. It allows you to wander and wonder with(in) the song.

Should are a band who appear, on the evidence of releases (or lack of them), to spend a lot of time in contemplation before deciding to make their music. For instance, the last ‘proper’ album was 1998’s “Feed Like Fishes”, with only the re-release of their one EP, “A Folding Sieve, in 2002 (with a lot of extra tracks, mind you) breaking the silence. Their contemplation, or whatever it is that has kept their recording to a minimum, makes for music that is both timeless and without boundaries. I could compare them to Damon and Naomi, as they bring just as much pure musical beauty to your ears as that iconic duo.

Despite a real lack of regular releases, their colours are worthy of being carried, and I for one would volunteer in a trice to help do so. They thoroughly deserve whatever success comes their way.
