Lobisomem - Brightest Solids (Tall Corn Music)Lobisomem
This the second release of electronic musician, Lobisomem - who fears to tread in the realms of experimental noise, nor places a foot near any dance floor, but these opposing forces flank Brightest Solids on both sides, allowing it to inhabit a peaceful and fulfilling electronic middle ground. Its duality is further exemplified by the fact that it started life as laptop compositions but upon reaching the studio, transfers to tape were made, and then edited and mixed in an entirely analogue set up. Drones, cut-ups, deep bass, angular jabs, gentle melodies and sweeping soundscapes are all to be found in this amalgam. The electronic appropriation of Thumb Piano, on “Chicago Metronomo”, and tribal drum on “Teresa” provide subtle references to African, South American and Jamaican music.  Contemporary reference points include Four Tet, Prefuse 73, Lukid, Tortoise, Atlas Sound, Flying Lotus and El Guincho.
