Rae Spoon – Love Is A Hunter(Saved By Radio)
An occasional collaborator with Leicester Bangs favourite Rodney DeCroo, Albertan trans-gendered singer-songwriter Rae Spoon has been around long enough for me to call him a Canadian roots stalwart without fear of contradiction. His eighth album, his first for Calgary Imprint Saved By Radio, has been inspired by an extended stay in Germany, where it seems he has (re)discovered a love of dance music and club culture, resulting in a collection that is both song-based and dance floor friendly. It’s a tricky proposition to pull off, and many have floundered, but young Spoon navigates these waters with some aplomb and delivers a worthy successor to his 2008 success, Superioryouareinferior.
