Jeff Cameron: Bargofaxis

Reviews
Jeff Cameron – Bargofaxis (Secret Turtle Music Company)
Subtitled both ‘The Cosmic Love Story’ and ‘The First Sixties Concept Album Of The Century!”, Jeff Cameron’s Bargofaxis maybe a shameless nostalgia trip for ageing baby-boomers or a noodle nudge for hedonistic longhairs who mislaid the details somewhere on their long strange trip, but it does it right. All I want from an album like this is songs and tunes, and Cameron supplies both; solid pop songs, neat arrangements and something for the postman to whistle. His voice isn’t the strongest, but what it lacks in oomph it makes up for with a knowing charm. Needless to say – but I’ll say it anyway -there’s a story in here somewhere, something to justify the concept tag, but I gave up trying to follow these things with SF Sorrow, and life’s really too short to start dissecting songs for narrative structure. I’m too busy enjoying Bargofaxis for what it is, a ‘60s styled pop record with a little dialogue on the side. I’m sure if you’re so inclined you’ll find more, but that’s enough for me.
