The Bittersweets - Goodnight, San Francisco (Compass)
I first played this in the car, and I didn’t skip a single track! Being unaware of The Bittersweets before receiving this CD, that shows how good an album it is. This is the second full album from the San Francisco trio, who are now based in Nashville. The lead singer Hannah Prater has that haunting quality to her voice that grabs the listener straight away. From the first track "Wreck" through to the atmospheric "Blue" to the poppy "Birmingham" the songs demand attention. The song "Lies" could easily have been on any Alison Krauss album, and "Border Town" is a country rocker, with the twangy Duane Eddy guitar to the fore. A strong album form start to finish. http://compassrecords.com
