EarWorm - EarWorm (Vermiphone Records)Earworm
Earworm are an electro-acoustic quartet of composer-performers and their debut assembles works from five improvised performances in 2008. Each of the members brings influences and experiences from a variety of musical forms which are merged into their eclectic, but heavily funk fuelled output. Eerier ambient pieces with a folkier, bluesier leaning such as opener “EarWorm…”, “Twilight of the Clods” (parts 1-3) and “Orange Pool Encounter”, are used to segment percussion heavy tribal wig-outs (“A Jungle Of Cubes” trilogy), ethnic jazz funk (“Lighting Up The Room”, “Let’s Do It Right Now” and “A Gentle Goodnight” - essentially a single piece with three titles, which could be likened to “On the Corner” period Miles Davis). At other times, Hip-Hop meets Weather Report (“Muttering of the Ocean”), filmic jazz scores are administered (“Have You Eyes?”), and the spirit of Steve Hillage / System 7 is invoked - “Dusting the Juggler”.
