Wreckless Eric & Amy Rigby – Two-Way Family Favourites (Southern Domestic)
Named after the British Forces radio request show (it’s aim to help keep family members in touch with soldiers, sailors etc. posted overseas, and vice versa), the album features a collection of songs close to the hearts of rock ‘n’ roll’s most poptastic couple. Or something like that. Unfortunately, it’s a little hit and miss, which is no great surprise, but it still offers up a few nuggets. Jackie De Shannon’s “Put A Little Love In You Heart” is heartfelt and effective. Smokie’s “Living Next Door To Alice” is remade as woozy psychedelia and the Mott The Hoople(esque) “Silver Shirt” (you’ll find the Plummet Airlines original on the Big Stiff Box Set) ends things on a high.
