 Skippy Peanut Butter 340g (Unilever) I came to Peanut Butter quite late in life at 23, and it always seemed a very exotic spread, perhaps  because of the frequent mentions of it on American television programs (see also: Grits).
Early attempts at eating it very thickly applied to hot toast which creates a carpet adhesive like consistency were frightening, but then a friend recommended I try Peanut Butter & Mayonnaise sandwiches and since then I haven’t looked back. I continued in this vein quite happily until the day I discovered Skippy Peanut Butter and suddenly my eyes were opened. In my opinion this is the champion spread. A heavy peanut aroma, an emulsion like smoothness, a sweet flavour which when put with the Mayo creates the ultimate sandwich, a fact which is notably missing from the serving suggestions on the label (Unilever, you can have that one for free). It’s not all that easy to get hold of in the UK, with not all major supermarkets stocking it, but that only adds to it’s delight, like finding a rare record in a charity shop. |
