Zallen
A little Q&A with multi-instrumentalist Zallen (aka Michael Zallen Jones).
Leicester Bangs: Tell us a little about yourself, and your band.
Michael: Zallen is a one man band and this latest effort / release "Eclectica" was actually all improvised, though it didn't end up sounding that way.
LB: How did you start out making music?
Michael: My first professional band at 15 years old was called Eulogy, co-formed with Rusty Anderson, Paul McCartney's current lead guitarist, and an amazing talent in his own right.
LB: Who did you grow up listening to and how do they influence what you’re doing now?
Michael: T-Rex, David Bowie, early Sparks, Iggy Pop, The Beatles. They had mystique, adventure, glam, theatrical edgyness... that's all missing today unfortunately. Some groups may have it but they can't write a freekin song to save their life!
LB: Tell us about your latest release.
Michael: Its called "Eclectica" and I play all the instruments... it was recorded at home. Rusty and I used to make up crazy improvised songs at parties through the years but I never applied that technique to an album until now.
LB: Do you get out and play your music live, and if so, what can an audience expect at one of your shows?
Michael: Presently I occasionally play acoustic shows and some of my more successful friends will ask me to do a song or two live here in Hollywood. I am looking to put a band together to support the new CD
LB: What aspects of playing and recording music do you most enjoy?
Michael: The challenge of trying to come up with some decent pop that will move people emotionally that isn't crap.
LB: Where can people find (and buy) your music?
Michael: My website, CD Baby and iTunes (links below)
