Lady Lazarus - Home Recordings EP (Apartment Life) Seven songs recorded slow and sparse - this is folk music recorded by someone brought up on 4AD and old blues 78s. As the title suggests (demands?), this is basic and quite raw. The finer techniques of recording, whether at home or the studio, have been bypassed and the fruits of this lugubrious labour both haunt and sparkle in turn. As for the songs, I’m almost perfectly unknowing of their meaning, and in most cases the quality of the recording leaves me basking in their tones rather than hanging meaning onto individual syllables.
